We live in challenging times and there is a temptation to try to do anything that will make money. If you’ve been around the block a few times you’ve probably got a lot of skills and experience you can sell. Don’t be tempted to sell it all at once, you will only confuse people.
Walk in to any supermarket and there are thousands of products on display, all available for sale. We can buy anything we want. However very few items will be being promoted. We will be tempted by a few special offers which will be displayed prominently. Only these items will be included in the store’s advertising. The chosen items will be seasonal or linked to an event and the promotional campaign will probably have been planned months in advance.
As small business owners we need to take a leaf from the supermarkets’ book. Plan which product or service you are going to promote this month. Choose something for the right reasons. Is it right for this season? Can you piggy back an event or celebration?
Now having chosen your product or service stick to promoting that in your newsletters, emails, advertising and when networking.
Marketing just one aspect of your offer does not stop people buying the rest, just as we can buy apples when strawberries are on promotion at the supermarket.
So your action for this month: Decide which product or service you want to promote in each of the next three months. Set yourself some goals. How many new names do you want to add to your list? How many enquiries do you want to generate? How much money do you want to make?
