April 2011: How can you build business without a contact list?
What happens when you go to the supermarket without a shopping list? If you are like me you wander backwards and forwards walking extra miles as you remember additional items in the aisles you’ve just come from. You get home and there’s a random assortment of products and no real meals. Oh yes, and the thing you most needed you forgot to buy. A list is just as important to your business; why?
Without a list how can you target your marketing? Without a list how can you continue to show your customers you care? Without a list how can you remind past customers that you still exist? Without a list you will constantly be fishing in the wrong pond for new customers.
If you are serious about building, or even maintaining, your business you need to communicate with people regularly. If you don’t you can be sure your competitors will and they don’t mind stealing your customers. Yes I know your customers love you, but for how long? You need to nurture that relationship to keep the flame alive.
So who should be on your ‘list’*?
1. Every customer who has bought from you
2. Every person who has enquired about your product or service
3. Every networker who has shown genuine interest in you
4. Every person who has worked for or with you (so long as they don’t hate you!)
5. Key influencers who can put in a good word for you.
6. Visitors to your exhibition stand, website or blog
7. Attendees at your webinars, tele-seminars, training sessions etc.
8. Anybody who has asked to be there!
Your action for this month is to make sure your list is as up to date and complete as possible and that it is expanding. If you already have a database how many new names will you add? Where will they come from? If you don’t already have one how will you get one?
If you would like some help to build your list give me a call on 020 8991 2767 (8.00a.m. to 9.00p.m. GMT please) or drop me an email to glenda.shawley@thetrainingpack.co.uk
*There are some rules you need to obey like getting people to opt in to joining your list and giving them the chance to unsubscribe at any time so make sure you check those out for where you are.
Next month we’ll talk about some of the things you should be doing once you have a list.

Hello Glenda I liked the April news letter, i think and i hope every one is getting bit by bit “the 4 S”: Some Soul Sun Shine. It s reminding me the French song: (Le Printemps est arrive sur la saison) x 2, L’ Amour et la Joie, Vive la Vie, vive le vent, et vive le printemps!
Instead of vive le vent, lets say vive la Vie, vive les gents et vive le Business!
Have a good day.
