Are you being fair?

I’ve spent quite a lot of the last couple of weeks marking assignments. The assignments require the students to deliver a short training session and then write a reflective summary about how it went. Some do that very well, others are very superficial and some are really hard on themselves. Are you like that too?

Is it time for some self-reflection?Time to think

Self reflection is a key component of personal development and is something we really should do every day but it’s essential to take a balanced view, to identify the good and the ‘to improve’ and to be fair on ourselves. So here are a few questions to help you use self reflection to grow yourself and your business:

  • What went well?
  • Why did it go well?
  • How can I learn from what went well?
  • What could have been better?
  • What would have made it better?
  • What will I do differently next time?
  • What have I learned today?
  • How will I use that learning in the future?

Action tip

Keep a self-reflection diary and post in it every day. Paste these or similar questions in the front cover and refer to them as you write to ensure balance. In this way you will ‘park’ the things that went badly and retain your good ideas all of which should help you sleep better.

Go on, what’s stopping you? Why not share some of your thoughts here? Let us give you a pat on the back for what has gone well and some encouragement where you need it.
